From Science to Art: Meaningful Events Organized with the Power of WomenGebze Technical University (GTU) celebrates International Women's Day on March 8 with a two-day program held on March 6-7, 2025, featuring events in science, arts, and entrepreneurship. With the participation of academics, students, and industry representatives, the program hosts inspiring sessions highlighting the role of women in social and academic life.
The Power of Women in ScienceAt the BIOWOMEN event, organized by the GTU Bioengineering Society in the Biotechnology Amphitheater, expert speakers discussed the presence of women in the scientific community. Topics ranged from the fundamental principles of clinical research to the challenges of being a woman in science.
The GTU IEEE Society hosted successful female professionals at the Women in Everywhere event in the Red Hall of the Congress and Cultural Center. Women leaders from the business world shared their career stories and professional experiences with participants.
Cultural and Social GatheringsThe GTU Women and Family Studies Application and Research Center (KUAM) brought together female dormitory students in the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan by organizing an iftar dinner at the Nilüfer Hatun Dormitory Head Office.
Additionally, KUAM held a photography exhibition titled Istanbul Through the Eyes of Women at the Congress Center Foyer, featuring different landscapes of Istanbul captured through the lenses of female academics.
Inspiring Women and a Theater PerformanceThe GTU Chemistry Society and the Entrepreneurship and Career Planning Society organized Inspiring and Entrepreneur Women’s Day in the Red Hall of the Congress and Cultural Center. Successful women entrepreneurs shared their experiences in various industries, offering inspiration to young attendees.
Speaking at the event, GTU Vice-Rector Prof. Elif Damla Arısan emphasized the importance of women in social and academic life. She stated, “You may not have had the opportunity to receive a university education, or you may not have had access to certain opportunities. However, that does not mean you cannot participate in life. Valuing effort, supporting one another, standing together, and healing collectively is possible.”
KUAM Director Prof. Fatma Yüksel highlighted that International Women’s Day is a day of solidarity that demonstrates women can succeed without enduring hardship. She stated, “Working women are not necessarily suffering women. We succeed with enthusiasm and effort, without the need for struggle.”
The GTU Theater Society performed the play Kargaşa in the Blue Hall of the Congress and Cultural Center, shedding light on pivotal moments in women's lives and their resilience. The performance received great interest from the audience.
Women’s Solidarity on CampusGTU students organized a march to raise awareness of women's rights, concluding in front of the library.
The GTU Ultraslan-UNI Society made a heartfelt gesture by distributing roses to female academics, students, and staff across campus in honor of the March 8 International Women’s Day.
Meanwhile, the Gebze Village Women’s Cultural Platform held an event titled Women in Gebze Villages in the Congress Center Foyer, showcasing how women shape local culture. Traditional clothing, handicrafts, and culinary traditions were presented to attendees.
With events spanning from science to art, GTU celebrated the March 8 International Women’s Day to the fullest. These events, which emphasized the academic, social, and professional importance of women, were met with great enthusiasm from participants.
