As part of a training on the effective use of artificial intelligence tools, GTU academics, administrative staff, and students come together. GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar emphasizes AI awareness is essential for everyone.
Gebze Technical University (GTU) has organized an event titled “LLM Command (Prompt) and API Usage Training,” providing comprehensive information on artificial intelligence technologies. The training was conducted by Research Assistant Başak Buluz-Kömeçoğlu (PhD) from GTU’s Institute of Information Technologies and R&D Engineer Yavuz Kömeçoğlu from Kodiks Bilişim and took place on February 27, 2025, at the GTU Congress and Cultural Center.
Alongside GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar, Prof. Yusuf Sinan Akgül, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, as well as academic and administrative staff and students participated in the training. In his opening speech, Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar stated that AI awareness should not be limited to computer scientists and emphasized the importance of AI-related knowledge and skills for academic and administrative staff as well.
The GTU Rector stated, “Artificial intelligence is now an integral part of our daily lives and academic work. This training is crucial for everyone, from administrative staff to academics. Participation in such training should be encouraged to establish a common language.” He also noted that GTU is pioneering AI-related education and expressed that similar programs would become more widespread in the future.
Aiming to provide theoretical knowledge and practical experience to participants interested in developing AI-powered applications, the training began in the morning session with a speech by Prof. Yusuf Sinan Akgül on the scope and content of the training. Following this, Research Assistant Başak Buluz-Kömeçoğlu delivered a presentation covering theoretical insights into LLMs (Large Language Models) and prompt engineering. In the afternoon session, participants worked in teams of three to four to develop online applications under the guidance of R&D Engineer Yavuz Kömeçoğlu, reinforcing what they had learned. Additionally, information was provided on how LLM tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and DeepSeek could be utilized in academic and administrative processes.
The event served as a significant opportunity for researchers interested in artificial intelligence and natural language processing (NLP), offering participants a comprehensive guide to working with large language models and API usage. It was also announced that for those who could not attend or wish to reinforce their knowledge, the training would be repeated on March 5, 2025, at the GTU Congress and Cultural Center.
