Gebze Technical University (GTU) takes action to meet the basic needs of children living with their mothers in prison and provide them with moral support.

Prof. Meral Elçi, the Social Impact Coordinator at GTU, and GTU Faculty of Administration's graduate students has launched a social responsibility project to meet the basic needs of children living with their mothers at Gebze Closed Prison and Bursa Yenişehir Prison. A total of 36 children's needs have been met. A visit was made to Gebze Closed Prison, where consultations were held with the prison administration, psychologists, and preschool teachers, and throughout the project, the children's basic needs, including clothing, shoes, hygiene products, stationery, and toys, were provided. While the visit took place at Gebze Prison, the necessary materials for Bursa Yenişehir Prison were sent by cargo.

This activity aimed to meet the basic needs and provide moral support for children living with their mothers in prison, while also boosting the motivation of prison administrators, psychologists, and preschool teachers, as well as raising social awareness and consciousness. Volunteers had the opportunity to develop empathy by witnessing the living conditions of the children in prison. The event created a model that will serve as an example for future social responsibility projects.

The GTU Social Impact Coordination Office expressed its gratitude to the academics, students, volunteers, and sponsors who supported the project and began new efforts to spread this awareness to a wider audience.
