The launch event of the Gebze Technical University (GTU) Faculty of Architecture Research Platform (GTU-mimHUB) is held in collaboration with the GTU Research Coordination Office to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and research dialogue. The event features discussions on interdisciplinary research trends, common research areas, and future collaborations.
The event brought together researchers from various disciplines. Aimed at identifying common research fields and laying the groundwork for future collaborations, this gathering took place on February 18, 2025, at the GTU Faculty of Architecture.
The event was attended by GTU Vice-Rector Prof. Elif Damla Arısan, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Prof. Elif Özlem Aydın, as well as academics and representatives from the various divisions of the university. Participants emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary dialogue and shared their perspectives on exploring potential partnerships.
In her opening speech, Vice-Rector Prof. Elif Damla Arısan highlighted the steps taken to strengthen the university’s research dynamics and underlined the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration. She also drew attention to advancements in sustainability, international collaborations, and social contributions, stating, “At Gebze Technical University, we have ambitious goals. Through the joint efforts of our researchers, students, and all staff, we are strengthening our identity as a research university.”
Prof. Arısan also emphasized the importance of mechanisms established to enhance researchers' visibility and optimize scientific outputs, including the research coordination office, award applications, and TÜBİTAK projects. She added, “I want to reiterate how vital interdisciplinary collaboration is not only for our university, but for the future of the entire academic world. By working together and learning from each other's experiences, we can build a better future. I sincerely thank you all—it is an honor to be part of this journey with you.”
Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Prof. Elif Özlem Aydın, in her speech, highlighted that collaboration between architecture, planning, and design fields with other disciplines allows for the efficient use of natural resources, increasing the opportunity for people to live in high-quality spaces and settlements. She emphasized that the aim of this event was to strengthen interdisciplinary dialogue by sharing the Faculty of Architecture’s internal dynamics and research areas with other disciplines. She also stated that building these connections through dialogue is essential for transforming the academic network within the university into a more solid and effective structure.
GTU-mimHUB Coordinator and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Gamze Mert, provided insights into the establishment process of GTU-mimHUB, contributions from team members, the research groups formed, and ongoing projects. She stated that their primary goal is to create a research-driven environment within the faculty, integrate areas of expertise, and enhance interdisciplinary collaboration. She underlined that this process serves as an exemplary model that can inspire both within and beyond the faculty.
As part of the program, an introduction to GTU-mimHUB was presented, along with discussions on interdisciplinary research trends, brief presentations from research groups, and interactive dialogues evaluating potential collaboration opportunities. The event served as a platform that enabled participants to exchange ideas and reinforce the research culture.
GTU-mimHUB aims to support architectural research and develop integrated solutions with various disciplines. With this inaugural event, the platform sought to establish strong connections among researchers. It is anticipated that similar events will be held in the future to sustain this dialogue.
