New strategies in research, internationalization and sustainability goals are discussed.
GTU’s Achievements for 2024 Evaluated Gebze Technical University (GTU) held an academic council meeting on January 23, 2025, at the GTU Congress and Cultural Center to evaluate the research performance data and objectives for 2024. The meeting addressed various important topics, ranging from education and research culture to social impact and international collaborations. The Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar, Vice-Rectors Prof. Elif Damla Arısan, Prof. Hasari Çelebi, Prof. Mahmut Durmuş, deans, and many academics attended the meeting. During the meeting, GTU’s late faculty member of the Department of Physics, Prof. Fikret Yıldız, who passed away on January 20, 2025, was remembered with respect.
"Revolutionary steps are being taken in graduate education" At the meeting, Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar explained GTU’s innovative strategies in graduate education. He stated that they aim to attract more qualified students to GTU.
Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar also addressed important topics such as the increasing of international collaborations, effective use of laboratories, and spreading of the culture of project applications. He emphasized that academics must be persistent regarding projects and reminded the faculty of the importance of their individual efforts in increasing international collaborations.
Comprehensive Evaluation Conducted Vice-Rector Prof. E. Damla Arısan provided a comprehensive evaluation of the university's activities throughout 2024 and shared macro-level data in the areas of research, innovation, and social impact with the participants.
Significant Developments in GTU’s Research Ecosystem in 2024 Prof. E. Damla Arısan evaluated the increase in productivity and international visibility in the research ecosystem, particularly highlighting the success achieved in TÜBİTAK projects. She also pointed out to the critical role played by the Research Coordination Center and Technology Transfer Office in university-industry collaboration.
New Areas and Social Development Opportunities for Students Social projects for students were also discussed during the meeting. Works such as the opening of an affordable café and market at the campus entrance, establishment of new spaces in front of the library, the opening of the Young Office (Genç Office), and the supporting of student development through new social courses were highly appreciated.
Academics' Achievements Celebrated with Plaques At the end of the meeting, plaques were awarded to GTU academics whose projects were supported by international funds in 2024 and who won awards in line with their research objectives.
