A cooperation protocol is signed between Gebze Technical University (GTU) and the Turkish Civil Aviation Union (Hava-İş) in order to carry out joint activities in many areas such as trainings, seminars, scientific studies, publications, and events.

On January 13, 2025, during a ceremony held at the GTU Senate Hall, the protocol was signed by Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar on behalf of Gebze Technical University (GTU) and Secretary General Sedat Ali Cangül on behalf of the Hava-İş Union. The ceremony was also attended by Mehmet Özcan, a Member of the Board of Directors of the Hava-İş Union Head Office; Yasin Ceyhan Kaptan, Pilot Representative of the Hava-İş Union; and members of the GTU project team, including Prof. Salih Zeki İmamoğlu (Project Coordinator), Prof. Hüseyin İnce, and Assoc. Prof. Serhat Erat.

As part of the protocol, the Pilot Fatigue Research Survey, to be conducted among pilots who are members of the Hava-İş Union, aims to academically investigate the causes of fatigue among pilots. The data obtained will be shared with stakeholders such as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM), the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), airline operators, the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), and the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF). These findings will serve as a step toward making necessary regulatory changes.

Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar emphasized that collaborations with various institutions and organizations help identify the needs of society more clearly and guide scientific studies toward addressing these needs. Secretary General Sedat Ali Cangül of the Hava-İş Union expressed his belief that this collaboration with GTU will yield significant benefits and his best wishes for both parties.

Furthermore, the data obtained from the study will be presented at a symposium to be organized with the participation of academics, aviation professionals, and civil aviation authorities, culminating in finalized outcomes.
