January 2, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations

Project led by Prof. Uygar Halis Tazebay from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at GTU is to be supported under the University-Industry Collaboration Support Program.

The project, titled “Recombinant Collagen Production for Biotechnological Applications”, led by Prof. Uygar Halis Tazebay from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Gebze Technical University (GTU), has been approved for support as a University-Industry Collaboration Project within the scope of TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye) TEYDEB's (Technology and Innovation Funding Programs Directorate) 1505 call. It will be carried out in partnership with Kazlıçeşme Deri Ürünleri Ar-Ge San. ve Tic. Ltd. Şti., a subsidiary of İSKEFE Holding.

The project aims to produce collagen using recombinant protein technology as an alternative to animal-derived collagen, suitable for biotechnological applications. This goal will be pursued through the work of Merve Tuzlakoğlu-Öztürk (PhD) and Prof. Uygar Tazebay. The initiative represents a significant first step toward the commercialization of recombinant collagen in a product form that is currently not produced by any domestic company.
