ASELSAN Provides Project Support for GTU

December 30, 2024 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations

The results of the "Seed Project Supports" applications for 2024 under ASELSAN Academy Program are announced, and a project from GTU in the field of Materials Science and Engineering is selected for support.

The project, titled “Development of Nanoscale Ceramic-Reinforced Composite Materials with Targeted Dielectric Properties for Adjustable GNSS Antenna Elements”, is academically supervised by Assoc. Prof. Neslihan Tamsü-Selli from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Gebze Technical University (GTU). The project is led by GTU doctoral student Caner Başaran in the same department and is supported under the ASELSAN Academy Program's "Seed Project Supports".

Dielectric materials are utilized in various applications due to their excellent electrical and insulation properties. Specifically, ceramic GNSS antenna elements are used in GNSS/GPS receivers and anti-jamming systems.

However, the heavy weight and low machinability of existing ceramic structures have led this project to focus on developing nanoceramic-reinforced composite materials with a cyanate ester matrix.

The Seed Project Supports initiative under the ASELSAN Academy Program aims to expand the opportunities for master's and doctoral thesis and dissertation studies and increase the added value generated by these projects. Through this program, selected projects receive fast and effective support using ASELSAN’s own resources.

During the evaluation of projects, key criteria such as the potential contribution to scientific research, relevance to ASELSAN projects, product viability, and innovative aspects were prioritized.
