Gebze Technical University (GTU) signs a protocol for the installation of a Solar Power Plant (SPP) to obtain energy from renewable sources and ensure sustainable energy.

In line with its vision for a sustainable campus, GTU aims to meet the energy needs of its campus units at reasonable costs, generate rental income, reduce Türkiye’s dependency on foreign energy, contribute to energy transformation for industrial development, create new employment opportunities, and support the reduction commitments outlined in the Paris Climate Agreement. For this purpose, GTU has signed a protocol with Enerpower Energy Technology Investment San. ve Tic. A.Ş. for the establishment of a Solar Power Plant (SPP).

The protocol was signed on behalf of GTU by Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar and on behalf of Enerpower Energy Technology Investment by the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Mehmet Mungan, in the GTU Senate Meeting Room.

According to the protocol, the areas where the SPP will be established will be leased to the winning company in accordance with the provisions of the "Unlicensed Electricity Generation Regulation" of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) dated May 12, 2019. It is planned that the SPP will be constructed and operated by the lessee on behalf of GTU, and at the end of the lease term, the ownership will be transferred without any issues.

The solar power plant will have a capacity of 6 MW, which will more than meet the energy needs of GTU, and it is planned to be operational within a year. The plant will be installed on existing parking lots and terraces, ensuring that it will not occupy any additional space on the campus.
