8th International Symposium on Disaster Mitigation Research in Earthquake-Prone Countries, organized by the Research and Education Complex for Developing Disaster-Resilient Societies (MARTEST), is held online on December 19, 2024.
The symposium was held under the framework of the Consortium for Disaster Mitigation Science (CoDMiS), a research collaboration among Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, Taiwan, and Türkiye. Nine presentations were delivered, covering topics such as structural engineering, geotechnics, geophysics, geodesy, disaster preparedness, and damage reduction. Türkiye, a member of the CoDMiS consortium since its establishment in 2018 by Prof. Yoshiyuki Kaneda of Kagawa University, Japan, hosted the meeting through MARTEST. The event gathered scientists to discuss strategies for mitigating the impacts of earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, and landslides in the five countries at risk of disasters. Asst. Prof. Ceren Özer-Sözdinler from the Department of Civil Engineering our university presented on "Resilience Studies within the Framework of MARTEST Research and Education Complex," while Prof. Selçuk Toprak shared insights with his presentation titled "Advanced Disaster Resilience: The READY4Disasters Project and Reflections on the 2023 Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes."
