Emine Sena Kazan-Kaya (PhD), Research Assistant at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Gebze Technical University (GTU), gets recognized as the most cited academic at GTU in 2024 according to Scopus and Google Scholar data. Kazan-Kaya stands out for her significant contributions to wastewater treatment and renewable energy sources.

In the works cited in publications about the removal of various pollutants from wastewater, which is of great importance for our future, young researcher Dr. Emine Sena Kazan Kaya has gained recognition in the scientific world with her article titled "Remediation of tetracycline from aqueous solution through adsorption on g-C₃N₄-ZnO-BaTiO₃ nanocomposite: Optimization, modeling, and theoretical calculation," which presents an effective method for the removal of the antibiotic "tetracycline" from wastewater.

Kaya's work extends beyond wastewater treatment to include research on "fuel cells," which hold great potential for clean and sustainable energy production. She continues her innovative studies at GTU.

Emine Sena Kazan-Kaya, conducting her studies at GTU, has explained the importance of her research and its future impacts as follows:

"The Industrial Revolution, the rapid development of industries, increased urbanization, and population growth have resulted in disruptions to the climate and ecological balance, posing significant threats to both the environment and human health. Unfortunately, today, water resources contain organic pollutants such as dyes, pesticides, antibiotics, and phenol, making access to clean water increasingly difficult.

In other words, the widespread use of various pollutants, dyes, and heavy metals in different industrial applications, and the discharge of wastewater into the environment without treatment from these facilities, is concerning. The pollutants found in industrial wastewater pose threats to both the environment and human health. Therefore, removing these substances from wastewater is of utmost importance.

Another area I prioritize is alternative energy production systems. Given the environmental and ecological damage caused by the use of fossil fuels in energy production today, the concept of utilizing alternative energy sources has attracted the attention of many researchers. Since it is well known that fossil-based fuels are depletable, finding a clean, economical fuel with high energy density is crucial. In this context, promising fuel cells stand out due to their ability to utilize a wide range of renewable fuel types."
