GTU and ISU To Fight Against Climate Change

A "Research Projects Protocol" is signed between Gebze Technical University (GTU) and Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality ISU General Directorate to conduct joint scientific studies in the fields of water management and the environment.

 

Gebze Technical University (GTU) and Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality ISU General Directorate of Water And Sewerage Administration have taken an important step toward protecting water resources. The protocol, signed on December 3, 2024, by ISU General Director Ali Sağlık and GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar, has officially launched the project titled “Evaluation of the Effects of Climate Change on the Yuvacık Dam Basin Through Exergy Analysis and Development of Alternative Adaptation Methods.” The protocol not only focuses on the Yuvacık Dam Basin, but also symbolizes the beginning of a comprehensive research process that will form the foundation for future local, national, and international projects aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change.

 

Speaking at the signing ceremony, GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar emphasized the strength of the university's research infrastructure and its Department of Environmental Engineering. Highlighting that this protocol would establish a systematic collaboration model, Mantar stated: “As Gebze Technical University, we are one of Türkiye’s most ambitious universities. This protocol is a step that will transform joint R&D studies from an academic dimension into tangible results for Kocaeli, Türkiye, and the world. With the academic strength of our university and the field expertise of ISU, we will develop effective solutions.”

 

During the ceremony, ISU General Director Ali Sağlık underlined the productive collaborations they have had with Gebze Technical University to date. He stated that this protocol would shape the direction of future studies: “This study, which will specifically focus on the Yuvacık Dam, will be shaped by our field experience and the university's expertise. We will make our accredited laboratories available to the academics. Furthermore, this collaboration will pave the way for national and international projects.”

 

The signing ceremony was attended by GTU Faculty of Engineering Environmental Engineering Department Head Prof. Nihal Bektaş and Environmental Engineering Faculty Member Prof. Mahir İnce. The project will involve interdisciplinary work, with contributions from GTU Faculty of Engineering's Department of Environmental Engineering, Department of Computer Engineering, Department of Geomatics Engineering; Faculty of Science's Department of Mathematics; and GTU Institute of Earth and Marine Sciences.
