International students studying at Gebze Technical University (GTU) participate in the “Welcome Home” event organized by the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality.
With the start of the new academic year, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality hosted international students from all around the world who have come to Kocaeli for university education, at the "Welcome Home" event held at Antikkapı Restaurant, aiming to inform them about the city and help them get to know one another.
Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality organized the “International Student Gathering” for students of Gebze Technical University (GTU) and Kocaeli University (KOU), with the participation of Kocaeli Governor İlhami Aktaş, Metropolitan Mayor Tahir Büyükakın, GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar, KOU Rector Prof. Nuh Zafer Cantürk, President of the Kocaeli International Students Association Nebi Karakoyun, academics, and hundreds of international students from countries such as Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Algeria, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Palestine, Georgia, India, Cameroon, Montenegro, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, Serbia, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine. During the program, GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar delivered a welcoming speech, highlighting the opportunities provided for international students at GTU and thanking Governor Aktaş and Mayor Büyükakın for their support and attention to international students. He also wished all students success throughout their academic journey.
The event, which began with speeches from protocol members, continued with international students presenting gifts to the officials and performing cultural shows they had prepared. It concluded with a period of informal conversation between the protocol members and the students.
