November 19, 2024 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations
In the name of the scientific friendship between Türkiye and Japan, Sakura saplings, symbolizing Japanese culture, will add color to the GTU campus while strengthening the ties between the two countries.
In addition to its international scientific projects, Gebze Technical University (GTU) has added a new initiative aimed at strengthening its cultural bonds. The GTU Social Impact Coordination Office, together with the Department of Management's master's students, planted Sakura (Japanese Cherry Blossom) saplings in the soil as part of a social responsibility project in the name of Türkiye-Japan scientific friendship.
Dozens of Sakura saplings, which hold significant importance in Japanese culture, were planted on the GTU campus under the motto "Today a Sapling, Tomorrow a Pink Breath" with the participation of GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar, students, academics, administrative staff, and their families. The Sakura saplings planted in this project go beyond just being a tree planting activity; they reflect the long-standing friendship and shared values between Turkish and Japanese cultures. In Japanese culture, Sakura symbolizes beauty, nature, and the transience of life. These pink-flowered trees, added to GTU’s green landscape, will bloom in late March and early April, bringing aesthetic elegance to the campus for 15-25 days.
