GTU faculty member from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Prof. Nuri Öztürk, receives support from the TÜBİTAK 2247-A National Outstanding Researchers Program.
As part of the program, two PhD students will be supported as scholarship holders, and a project titled "Studies on the Use of Circadian Clock Photoreceptors for Optogenetic Purposes" will be funded. The project aims to redesign the biological clock photoreceptors of non-human organisms with white or different colored light, in order to control the activity of target enzymes and genes in human cells without affecting the biological clock. The optogenetic tools developed in this project will later be used in animal models for controlling gene/protein functions at the tissue and organ levels through light application. |
