Gebze Technical University (GTU) hosts one of the region's largest employment events between November 7-9, 2024, bringing together the business world and individuals with career goals. The event, which is the only fair organization among university fairs open to the public and for blue-collar workers to find jobs, sees the participation of 100 companies and invited all universities.
The "İşte İş'in 2024"Career and Employment Fair was attended by Ahmet Aydın, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security; Osman Boyraz, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure; İlhami Aktaş, Governor of Kocaeli; Hasan Soba, Deputy Mayor of Kocaeli; GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar; Ertuğ Şevket Aksoy, Deputy Governor of Kocaeli; Mehmet Ali Özyiğit, Gebze District Governor; Ahmet Önal, Çayırova District Governor; Gebze Mayır Zinnur Büyükgöz; Darıca Mayor Muzaffer Bıyık; GTU Vice-Rectors Prof. Mahmut Durmuş, Prof. Damla Arısan, Prof. Hasari Çelebi; GTU Secretary General Nadir Yıldırım; GTU Career Development Center (KAGEM) Director Prof. Mustafa Türkmen; Ulvi Yılmaz, Provincial Director of Employment and Workforce Agency; Abdurrahman Aslantaş, Chairman of Gebze Chamber of Commerce (GTO); Ayşenur Aydın Gümrükçü, President of Human Resources Solidarity Association (İKDAY); representatives from institutions, non-governmental organizations; and prominent figures from the business world.
The event aimed to provide significant opportunities both for job seekers and companies in need of personnel, and it started with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem. The theater play "Problems of Employment and Employers" performed by the GTU Theater Club received great appreciation from the participants. The performance by young talents was met with applause.
Deputy Minister Aydın Highlights the Importance of the Event After the theater performance, Ahmet Aydın, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security, gave the opening speech, emphasizing the event's importance in preparing the workforce for the future, especially in adapting to technological developments, increasing regional employment, and contributing to Türkiye's general economic development goals. Key points from Aydın’s speech included the following:
Contribution to regional economy and employment: "I believe this event will significantly contribute to employment in Kocaeli and the surrounding provinces. Organizing such fairs is crucial for maintaining the economic dynamism of our region."
Value we give to labor and production: “Today, we are not only discussing the business world and employment, but also the value of labor and production. We care about strengthening the solidarity between workers and employers and the benefits it brings to our economy.”
Need for self-improvement: "Technology is advancing rapidly, and we must adapt to innovations like green transformation. Therefore, we are reviewing our working models and adapting to the new generation of work environments. We are always aware of the need for self-improvement and shaping our policies accordingly."
Special support for youth, women, and employment: "We are especially encouraging the participation of women and young people in the workforce. With various programs and incentives aimed at women's employment, we have integrated many citizens into working life. These efforts have also led to a significant decrease in unemployment."
Increasing the prestige of professions: "I believe we need to elevate the prestige of every profession for our country's development. It is our duty to reinforce respect for professions among workers and ensure future generations take more ownership of their careers."
Türkiye strengthened by solidarity: "When we talk about production, exports, and employment, we must work harder, produce more, and support one another. For Türkiye’s growth and strength, we must adapt to the evolving world and prepare our workplaces accordingly."
GTU Rector: "We Aim To Be Beneficial to Our Country" GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar expressed his pleasure in the organization of the "İşte İş'in 2024" Career and Employment Fair and highlighted that GTU continues to increase its contributions to students and society. He also stated that no distinction should be made between professions in society. The Rector continued:
"As Gebze Technical University, we aim to be the best in both education and research. However, we also see contributing to the needs of society as one of our primary duties. With the Social Impact Coordination Office, we not only serve our students, but also contribute to our surroundings and society. While making this contribution, we are also advancing our work in areas like digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and green transformation, aiming to be beneficial to both the sector and our country. As a university, we believe all professions in society are equally respected. Every individual performs valuable work for society in their position."
GTO Collaborates with Vocational High Schools GTO Chairman Abdurrahman Aslantaş emphasized the efforts to increase Türkiye's employment, production, and economic strength in his speech. He mentioned that they are working with local governments to address labor shortages in various sectors and developing projects to train blue-collar workers. He highlighted the importance of vocational high schools and courses, stating that they aim to provide education and employment opportunities for young people through collaboration with vocational schools.
İKDAY To Increase Employment Opportunities IKDAY President Ayşenur Aydın Gümrükçü addressed the challenges faced in human resources and employment in Türkiye, such as the inability of the workforce to adapt to changing needs, the requirement for new skills due to digitalization and technological development, and the migration of qualified labor to large cities. She stressed the importance of human resources solidarity and regional development programs in overcoming these challenges and assured that efforts to increase employment opportunities would continue.
KAGEM Works Towards Public-University-Industry Collaboration KAGEM Director Prof. Mustafa Türkmen emphasized that GTU sees public-university-industry collaboration as an important responsibility. He explained that the main goal of the Career Development Center is to provide career guidance based on students' and graduates' interests and skills and to support them in internship and employment decisions. He also stated that the interest shown by companies in GTU students and graduates is proof of their high qualifications, which is a source of pride for the university. After the opening speeches, the event continued with the presentation of plaques, ribbon-cutting, and visits to the stands.
A Pioneering Event Contributing to the Region's Economy The fair, organized in collaboration with Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, Gebze Technical University, Gebze Chamber of Commerce, İŞKUR, and the İKDAY, aims to energize the region's economy by mobilizing the workforce potential. Over three days, the fair will provide educational programs, conferences, and promotional activities, contributing to participants' professional development.
Online Employment Support Ensures Continuity "İşte İş'in 2024" extends its employment mobilization beyond the fair itself, providing ongoing support to participating companies through online platforms. This system, which aims to provide personnel support for small, medium, and large enterprises throughout the year, helps employers quickly and easily find the employees they need. The fair, one of the region’s most significant events for students, job seekers, and employers aiming to shape their careers, will conclude at 5:00 PM on Saturday, November 9, 2024. |
