Gebze Technical University (GTU) Faculty of Architecture organizes a panel on "Artificial Intelligence in Design" on November 1, 2024. The second edition of the event, following the first one held at Kadir Has University, is organized by the GTU Faculty of Architecture's Research Platform (GTÜMİMHUB) and its sub-research group Digital Media and Artificial Intelligence. The panel aims to create a platform for discussing the use of artificial intelligence in architecture and design processes and contributing to future research.
Panel Is Held With Wide Participation In her opening speech, GTU Faculty of Architecture's Dean Elif Özlem Aydın reviewed the historical process from the agricultural revolution to the industrial revolution and the 20th century's information and technology revolutions, offering a comprehensive perspective on the path leading to the use of artificial intelligence in design. Following her speech, Kadir Has University Faculty of Art and Design's Dean Banu Manav and Lecturer Aysu Dericioğlu Egemen discussed the effects of artificial intelligence on design education, intellectual property rights, and ethical principles.
In the morning session, under the title "Artificial Intelligence in Architectural Design and Design Education," a panel was held with Prof. Birgül Çolakoğlu from ITU as the chair. Other speakers included Prof. Arzu Sorguç from METU, Lecturer Dr. Dilara Kelle from KHAS, Prof. Levent Arıdağ from GTU, and Research Assistant Burak Delikanlı from ITU. The speakers shared their knowledge and experiences on human-machine collaboration with artificial intelligence, artificial intelligence in design practice, and reality in architecture.
Artificial Intelligence in Cultural Heritage Discussed In the evening session, under the chairmanship of Prof. Yusuf Sinan Akgül, Dean of the GTU Faculty of Engineering, the topic "Artificial Intelligence in Design and Cultural Heritage" was addressed. Asst. Prof. Can Uzun from Altınbaş University, Research Assistant Veli Mustafa Yönder from Izmir Institute of Technology (İYTE), Research Assistants Cem Balcan and Gökberk Yıldırım from GTU, and Emirkan Burak Yılmaz from the Department of Computer Engineering shared their work on preserving cultural heritage and historical buildings using artificial intelligence.
The panel concluded with a "Discussion-Forum" session, where contributions from academics from various disciplines were shared. The event attracted significant attention from participants interested in learning about new approaches in artificial intelligence and design processes.
