On October 31, a seminar titled “Say No to Violence! Awareness and Solidarity for a Future Without Violence” is held in the White Hall of the Congress and Cultural Center at Gebze Technical University (GTU). The event aims to raise awareness about violence and foster solidarity for a violence-free future.
The opening speech was delivered by Asst. Prof. Sedef Özçelik, a board member of the Women and Family Studies Application and Research Center (KUAM). Prof. Özçelik discussed topics such as gender equality, self-expression, and setting personal boundaries. She emphasized the importance of being sensitive to violence as part of the responsibility of being human and an individual. Additionally, she announced plans to enhance KUAM's communication channels at GTU to create a safe space for addressing issues such as sexual abuse and bullying.
Following the opening remarks, Expert Psychological Counselor Seyhan Sevinçler delivered a presentation titled “Psychological Violence.” Sevinçler shared insights about the types and symptoms of psychological violence, strategies for protection, and actions to take when faced with such violence.
In the seminar's final session, Psychologist Cavit Barış Gezginci from the Darıca Social Service Center spoke on “Nonviolent Communication.” Gezginci explained the fundamentals of healthy communication and the institutions that can be approached in cases of violence. GTU’s Expert Psychologist Lütfi Yapıcı also informed students about the psychological counseling and guidance services available at the university and called for increased sensitivity toward violence.
This event was organized to raise awareness about violence and strengthen solidarity toward achieving a non-violent future. |
