GTU Aims for Becoming a Center of Excellence in Battery Technologies With Project TwinBat

October 31, 2024 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations

The opening meeting for the TwinBat (Twinning for Rechargeable Sodium-Ion Battery Research) project, coordinated by Gebze Technical University (GTU) and supported under the Horizon Europe Twinning Action call (HORIZON-WIDERA-2023-ACCESS-02-01), is held on October 17, 2024, at the Congress and Cultural Center. The event brings together project partners, academics, and all relevant stakeholders.

Led by Prof. Rezan Demir-Çakan from GTU's Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, the three-year TwinBat project establishes a consortium partnership with France's Laboratoire de Réactivité et Chimie des Solides (CNRS-LRCS), sodium-ion battery manufacturer TIAMAT, and Humboldt-University Berlin (HUB) from Germany.

The primary goal of TwinBat is to transform Gebze Technical University into a center of excellence for rechargeable battery research in Türkiye, enhancing its research and development capabilities with innovative objectives. The project emphasizes both laboratory-based research and industrial-scale cell development for sodium-ion batteries. Over its course, TwinBat will host numerous workshops, summer schools, training programs, and conferences at GTU, CNRS-LRCS, TIAMAT, and HUB, involving academic institutions and various external stakeholders within the battery ecosystem in Türkiye.
