Gebze Technical University (GTU) hosts the Turkcell Academy UniBounty training program on October 23, 2024, with the joint organization of its Cybersecurity Vocational School and Faculty of Science. Held at the Red Hall of the GTU Congress and Cultural Center, the event draws significant attendance, particularly from students aspiring to enter the field of cybersecurity. Participants receive critical insights and hands-on training from industry experts.
Sectoral Collaborations in EducationThe event began with an opening speech by GTU Vice-Rector Prof. Mahmut Durmuş, who emphasized the critical importance of cybersecurity for both the public and the private sector. He highlighted that unlike other defense areas, cybersecurity requires collaboration between these entities. Prof. Durmuş underlined the significance of GTU's newly established Cybersecurity Vocational School and stressed the role of industry partnerships in providing effective education.
In his speech, Prof. Durmuş addressed two key points:
The Importance of National Software: “I firmly believe that cybersecurity must be conducted using national software and our own experts. Dependence on foreign systems poses substantial risks. In such a critical field, losing control by relying on external solutions could lead to potential restrictions in system use. It’s vital to tackle this with our internal resources and engineers.”
Incorporating Feedback: “Turkcell and other industry stakeholders have greatly contributed to our efforts, particularly in designing our curriculum and meeting technical needs. Industry professionals are well-positioned to identify needs, and we incorporate their feedback in our academic approach. Our goal is to prepare students as industry-ready cybersecurity specialists, which is why collaboration with the sector is of paramount importance.”
Appreciation for StakeholdersProf. Oğul Esen, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Science and Director of the Cybersecurity Vocational School, expressed his gratitude for the students' interest and Turkcell’s contributions during his welcome address. He extended thanks to all participants and contributors, wishing for a productive event.
From Basics to ApplicationsThe first session of the program, titled Cybersecurity 101, was conducted by experts from Turkcell Academy, who introduced participants to fundamental cybersecurity concepts. Subsequent sessions delved into application security, providing detailed information and practical exercises. Participants gained experience in identifying security vulnerabilities through test applications during this comprehensive one-day program.
Competition with PrizesThe program concluded with a fun and engaging competition, where various prizes were awarded to the winners. All attendees received certificates from Turkcell Academy as a token of participation.
Students expressed their satisfaction with the knowledge they gained from the event and the career opportunities it opened up in the field of cybersecurity. |
