L'Oréal Türkiye and the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO's "For Women in Science" program awards GTU Academic Prof. Esra Bilgin-Şimşek with a research fellowship.
In the 22nd year of the "For Women in Science" program, run by L'Oréal Türkiye in collaboration with the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, four women scientists have been awarded with a research excellence fellowship. Prof. Esra Bilgin-Şimşek, a faculty member at Gebze Technical University’s Faculty of Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, has been honored with the award. Prof. Bilgin-Şimşek has earned the research fellowship with her project titled “Development of Boron Carbon Nitride-Based Catalysts in Different Dimensions and Their Application in Water Purification and Green Hydrogen Production.”
Within the scope of the project, boron carbon nitride-based materials of various dimensions will be synthesized and used to purify resistant organic pollutants from wastewater using sunlight, while simultaneously producing green hydrogen. By reducing two-dimensional boron carbon nitride materials to zero dimensions and transforming them into quantum particles, their properties will be enhanced, creating potential for use in different fields. Thus, by using a clean and sustainable energy source, environmental water pollution will be prevented with the help of sunlight, while green hydrogen production will be achieved simultaneously. |
