Gebze Technical University (GTU) successfully concludes its Orientation Days, organized to prepare new students for university life, with a large turnout.
During the GTU Orientation Days, held on September 23-24, 2024, students were informed about academic life and had the opportunity to experience the social aspects of university life. In his welcoming speech, GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar emphasized that the university would provide all its resources to help students build a successful academic career. He highlighted the following points in his speech:
Success and Quality of Our University “I can confidently say that Gebze Technical University is one of the best universities in Türkiye. As a professor who has been working here for over twenty years, I would like to express that thanks to our achievements in industry collaboration, academic research, and education, we are among the most prestigious universities in Türkiye. This success is due to the dedicated work of our students, academics, and administrative staff."
Our Doors Are Always Open “Every administrator and professor at our university will approach you like a parent. Your success is our success. Our academic and administrative staff will always be by your side. Do not hesitate to bring any problems you face to your department heads, deans, or the rectorate. Our top priority is ensuring that you receive a high-quality education and graduate fully-qualified."
We Are Improving Our Social Facilities “We are working on expanding social areas on our campus. Very soon, new cafes, markets, and shopping areas will be at your service. Our goal is to provide a campus environment where you can live 24/7."
Dormitory Facilities “Our new dormitory for female students will open soon. Additionally, we plan to build a new dormitory for male students on campus. We are doing and will continue to do our best to ensure that you study in a peaceful and comfortable environment."
We Are Always Here for You “We are here to solve any problems you may encounter. Our university offers every support to ensure you graduate successfully and are well-prepared for life. We will stand by you throughout this process, and no problem will remain unresolved."
To Be a GTU Student On the first day of the program, which started at the Congress and Cultural Center, GTU Press and Public Relations Manager Çağatay Aktürk and Assistant Manager Çiçek Tomrukçu, PhD, delivered a presentation titled "To Be a Gebze Technical University Student." The presentation provided detailed information about the university and its departments. Alumni were invited to the stage to share their experience at GTU and career journeys, offering valuable advice to students. Later, Instructor Sena Teber, Undergraduate Coordinator, Department of Foreign Languages, gave an informative presentation on the department for the new students. In the afternoon, students participated in events in the foyer and festival areas, where they had fun and had the opportunity to meet student socities. The outdoor cinema screening and orienteering event, sponsored by TURKCELL, were also highly popular.
Second Day Activities The second day of the orientation began with a tree-planting event held in the garden of the Bioengineering Building. In this meaningful activity, which involved the participation of year 2024 entry students, environmental awareness was instilled, and students were encouraged to contribute to their university.
YEDAM and Addiction Seminar As part of the orientation activities, a presentation by Betül Zehra İnci from the Çayırova Yeşilay Counseling Center (YEDAM) and an Addiction Awareness Seminar by Cavit Barış Gezginci from the Darıca Family Social Services Center were held.
Great Support from Social Impact Coordination Office in the Orientation Days The Orientation Days once again provided an unforgettable experience for students with various activities offered by the GTU Social Impact Coordination Office. The program included introductory days, student society stands, informative seminars, and fun social activities. Students had the opportunity learn the ways to develop themselves both academically and socially.
The Social Impact Coordination Office participated in these enjoyable events with its stand. The activities, which started with a conference and presentations and continued with Miniature Orienteering, raffles, and olive tree planting events, not only established strong bonds with the new students, but also contributed to increasing social awareness.
Kocaeli Provincial Police Did Not Leave GTU Students Alone Kocaeli Provincial Police Chief Faruk Karaduman visited the university, chatted with the new students, and presented them with gifts. Additionally, police officers set up a stand in front of the university’s Kelebek Café to provide information. The officers stated, "We are here to keep our young people, who are the guarantee of our future, away from crime and criminals, from malicious individuals and groups, and to show that we are here for them."
Students, expressing their satisfaction with the program, thanked the university for the opportunity to connect with student societies and get to know the university better. Gebze Technical University provided its students with an unforgettable start. The university administration will continue working to contribute to students' academic and social development.
