Big Data Training for Gifted Students Begins
The project titled "Gifted Minds, Smart Data: Utilizing Big Data in the Education of the Gifted," hosted by Gebze Technical University (GTU) and supported by TÜBİTAK’s Nature Education and Science Schools Support Program, has been selected as one of the 86 projects from 630 submissions across Türkiye. The project is being carried out in collaboration with Tuzla District Governorate and Tuzla District National Education Directorate.
Purpose and Scope of the Project This important project aims to equip 32 BİLSEM teachers working with gifted students with knowledge and skills in big data analytics and technology integration in education. With the support of GTU’s expert academics, the teachers will explore the classroom applications of these innovative approaches and will have the opportunity to provide more personalized learning experiences to students. The insights gained during the project will be shared with all BİLSEM teachers, contributing to the broader use of technology in education in the long term.
Opening Meeting and Speeches The opening speech of the project was delivered by GTU Vice-Rector Prof. Mahmut Durmuş. Prof. Durmuş emphasized the importance of big data analytics in education, highlighting how this technology enables teachers to better analyze student performance and personalize educational processes. He also noted that big data analytics can help identify and prevent potential student failure risks through predictive analysis in education.
Tuzla District National Education Director Metin Çangır also spoke about the importance of big data analytics in education and the benefits of the project. Associate Professor Ayşin Kaplan Sayı, Coordinator of the Gifted Education Program at Bahçeşehir University, provided a general assessment of the project’s contributions to teachers' professional development.
Acknowledgments from the Project Coordinator Sevil Işık Özder, the project's Coordinator, extended her thanks to Tuzla District Governor Ümit Hüseyin Güney; GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar; Vice-Rector Prof. Mahmut Durmuş; Prof. Hüseyin İnce, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration; Tuzla District National Education Director Metin Çangır; and all other supporters for their financial and moral contributions. The project aims to successfully complete and present its outputs to the Ministry of National Education and teachers, contributing to the widespread use of big data analytics in education.
