Workshop by GTU-TTO Provides Information and Support at Once
Gebze Technical University Technology Transfer Office (GTU-TTO) continues to contribute to the green industry transformation of SMEs by organizing a mentorship support workshop through the TÜBİTAK 1831-Green Innovation Technology Extension Program funded by the World Bank. Held on June 10, 2024, at Gebze Technical University Congress and Cultural Center, the workshop provided comprehensive information on the benefits of green technologies and sustainable production methods for businesses and the roadmap to be created in this area.
In his opening speech, GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar emphasized the importance of green innovation for SMEs and the contributions of technological developments in this field to the business world, highlighting its significant role in stepping towards a sustainable future.
Highlights from Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar’s speech are as follows:
“TÜBİTAK 1831 Green Innovation Technology Extension Program:
The program aims to support SMEs in developing environmentally-friendly and innovative projects by providing sustainable solutions. This includes financial support and the transfer of knowledge and experience through expert mentors.
Green Innovation and Sustainability: Issues such as global warming, environmental pollution, and the depletion of natural resources make sustainable development and environmentally-friendly technologies necessary. Türkiye needs to be part of this global movement, supported by academia and industry.
Why the Workshop Matters: The workshop will help bridge the gap between the business world, academia, and the public sector, contributing to the spread of green innovation. The ideas and experiences shared will lay a crucial foundation for the future success of SMEs.
Why Green Innovation Matters: Green innovation not only protects the environment, but also provides cost advantages and competitiveness for businesses. Adopting green innovation is vital for both environmental and economic sustainability. Green innovation and sustainable development are not just goals but necessities for all of us. We will continue to work together to build a greener future.

Presentations by GTU Academics During the event sessions, Assoc. Prof. Pınar Ergenekon addressed the Climate Change Action Plan, while Prof. Dr. Nihal Bektaş explained Corporate Sustainability and ESG concepts. Lecturer İlhan Çam provided information on SDG and the Carbon Taxation System, and Mehmet Ergün informed the participants on the 14064 Greenhouse Gas Standard.
Introduction of the Project by Prof. Mahmut DurmuşOne of the key agenda items of the workshop was the TÜBİTAK 1831 Green Innovation Technology Extension Program Call. Project Coordinator and GTU Vice-Rector Prof. Mahmut Durmuş introduced the details of the program and the support it would provide for SMEs.
As part of the program, it was announced that SMEs would receive 90% grant support to obtain up-to-date information and consultancy services on green technologies.
The green industry transformation is of critical importance in combating global environmental issues. This workshop organized by GTU-TTO is considered an important step to help SMEs adapt to this transformation and move towards a more sustainable production approach.
