Hatice Öztekin, a final year undergraduate student at GTU's Department of Bioengineering, has won the third prize in a project competition organized by the Adana Organized Industrial Zone.
Hatice Öztekin, a student at the Department of Bioengineering, has won the third prize in the "4th National Industry-Focused R&D and Innovation Project Competition" organized by the Adana Hacı Sabancı Organized Industrial Zone, in which 144 competitors from 57 different universities participated. Öztekin, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bengü Ergüden from GTU's Department of Bioengineering, presented a project titled "Investigation, Analysis, and Optimization of Bioethanol Production Potential through Microalgae-Yeast Symbiotic Association" within the thematic area of green technologies in the field of Industrial Symbiosis Models in Industrial Sectors as part of the competition.
In the mentioned project, the aim is to increase bioethanol production efficiency by ensuring a symbiotic association between yeast and microalgae in a modified nutrient medium created from citrus fruit waste. The project proposal aims to operate in the fields of sustainable and eco-friendly energy sources through waste management. The primary goal is to support our country's policy on the use of waste-based renewable energy. With this vision, the proposed project aims to provide preliminary data for the production of renewable energy sources that can reduce our country's dependency on foreign energy and offer economic benefits.
