The screening of the film "Wheat Grain," (Buğday Tanesi) which raises awareness about disabilities, took place at GTU with the participation of Member of Parliament Serkan Bayram.
Organized by the Accessible GTU Division at Gebze Technical University (GTU) Congress and Cultural Center, the film screening was attended by people with disabilities and their families, associations, and university students. Prior to the film screening, GTU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Işıl Kurnaz and Member of Parliament Serkan Bayram delivered welcoming speeches.
Prof. Dr. Işıl Kurnaz explained GTU's approach to people with disabilities and their problems in terms of societal contribution capacity. She noted that the university is progressing towards becoming an institution that does not recognize barriers. Kurnaz stated, "I believe each of us should strive for an inclusive society. Removing barriers, ensuring equal opportunities, and enabling everyone to actively participate in life are our responsibilities."
In his speech, Serkan Bayram expressed that "Wheat Grain" is a social responsibility project that tells the story of millions. Bayram recounted the struggles he has faced throughout his life to remove all obstacles for people with disabilities so they can participate in all areas of society. He mentioned his efforts to establish a Ministry for People with Disabillities at the point he has reached.
Following the speeches, plaques were presented to Prof. Dr. Meral Elçi from the Accessible GTU Division and Member of Parliament Serkan Bayram on behalf of the the Accessible GTU Division. |
