The “Sustainable Water Management PhD Program” project, in which GTU is among the project stakeholders, has been entitled to be supported by the European Commission and TÜBİTAK.
Within the scope of Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, an application was made to the HORIZON-MSCA-COFUND-2022 call in February 2023 under the leadership of Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTE) in partnership with Gebze Technical University (GTU), Istanbul Technical University and Middle East Technical University. As a result of this application, WATER4ALL: Sustainable Water Management PhD Program project has been entitled to be supported by the European Commission and TÜBİTAK.
The aim of the project is to train PhD experts with an interdisciplinary, inter-sectoral and international approach for the sustainable management of water, which is the most important problem of our age. Within the scope of this project, 20 PhD students will be provided with scholarships for education, research and travel for 48 months. The program is supported by 19 supervisors from different disciplines and fields of study at Izmir Institute of Technology, Istanbul Technical University, Middle East Technical University and Gebze Technical University. In addition, the program is strengthened by short-term visit support from leading industry and research institutions in Türkiye, Europe and the United States. This will provide students with the opportunity to gain inter-sectoral and international experience.
The structure of the Water4All PhD Program is designed in modules, taking into account the different aspects of sustainable water management, centering on the collaboration of different disciplines (Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Materials Science, Remote Sensing/Sensor Technologies, Energy Systems Engineering, Urban and Regional Planning, etc.). In addition to their academic training, students will participate in trainings on circular economy, sustainability, open access, communication and presentation skills, gender equality, entrepreneurship, project management and intellectual property rights within the framework of the common courses module. Dissemination of the project outputs will be achieved through regular seminars where PhD students will present their work, an annual symposium to bring together all PhD students, academic advisors, co-advisors, industry mentors and industry representatives, and school visits.
Within the scope of the project to be conducted under the supervision of Prof. Mehmet Melikoğlu from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Prof. Melek Özkan from the Department of Environmental Engineering Assistant Professor Emel Topuz, and Assistant Professor Derya Ayral Çınar at Gebze Technical University, four doctoral students will be supported. |
