IV. International Green Biotechnology Congress

The IV Green Biotechnology Congress, which started as a workshop in 2017 and held its first congress in 2019 that was hosted by GTU in cooperation with Marmara University and Istanbul University, will be held in Sofia on November 7-8, 2024 by the Bulgarian Agricultural Academy in Sofia.

The main challenge of modern agriculture in the 21st century is to grow crops that are resistant to changing environmental and climatic conditions to ensure food security at regional and global level. Biotechnology is a powerful tool to facilitate and advance sustainable agriculture by increasing yields, biotic and abiotic stress resistance and improving the nutritional content of crops. In the green technology era, agricultural scientists are equipped with multidisciplinary approaches that combine plant science, engineering, food technologies and economics for the well-being of society. IV International Congress on Green Biotechnology will be held on November 07-08, 2024 in Sofia, Bulgaria and the theme of the congress is “Biotechnology for agricultural sustainability in the era of climate change”. The Congress will open a debate on the prospects of green technologies for the development of climate-resilient sustainable agriculture.

The Congress program will focus on the following thematic areas:

- Plant genomics, proteomics and metabolomics

- Precision plant breeding - marker assisted selection, genome editing techniques, plant phenomics

- Plant cell and tissue culture

- Beneficial soil microbiomes, phytoremediation

ATAM Director and Head of MBG Department Prof. Dr. Yelda Özden Çiftçi will make an oral presentation on “Gene editing of miR396b in tomato” at the congress as an invited speaker.
