The Hydraulic Laboratory, operating within the Department of Civil Engineering, provides an environment where students can perform hydraulic experiments as a supplement to their undergraduate education. It is housed under the same roof as the Geotechnical Laboratory. The laboratory includes the following experimental devices.
Within the scope of Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics courses, students have the opportunity to reinforce their knowledge and apply the principles they have learned in theoretical classes by conducting experiments hands-on. These experiments are conducted in groups of 15.
In this context, with the venturimeter experiment set, they can measure the flow rate through a pipe using the Bernoulli principle.
The Reynolds test set is intended for the determination of the flow regime and visual examination of laminar / turbulent flow properties.
Major and minor head losses test set aims to observe and measure the energy drops in the experimental system due to friction and different local variations (elements such as pipe connections, valves and pipe bend).
The experiments conducted within the scope of open channel hydraulics aim to investigate the flow behavior under various conditions such as narrowing and widening sections, under sluice gate and over a weir.
