Economics is a social science that mainly deals with the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services and examines how individuals, businesses, and governments make choices about the allocation of resources. The realization that economic events are effective in all areas of life has caused this branch of science to gain more importance over time. In today’s dynamic globalization processes, the correct interpretation of economic, social, and political developments in the country and in the world is possible with a comprehensive and strong economics education. In this context, the Department of Economics, which provides both undergraduate and graduate education under the Faculty of Business Administration of Gebze Technical University,

  • aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills for the processes of analyzing economic facts, questioning, researching, predicting, and making rational decision.

  • aims to increase scientific and applied knowledge in academic life through lectures, thesis studies, seminars, national and international projects, and publications in outstanding journals.

In the Department of Economics, there are 9 faculty members; 3 professors, 3 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, 1 lecturer and 10 research assistants. The department offers a wide range of education with its experienced, dynamic, and productive academic staff. It has been offered undergraduate education since 2017, graduate programs (with thesis and International Trade and Finance without thesis) since 2010 and doctorate programs since 2013.

The undergraduate program includes a four-year education. In the first two years of the program, a strong background in economic theory and applied statistical methods is provided. In the last two years of the program, a wide range of course content related to fields such as international economics, financial economics, political economics, health economics, data mining, innovation economics, sustainability and governance, investment project analysis and history of economic is offered, which can help students evaluate the current economic events and understand the functions of the international economic system.

The master’s degree with thesis is designed to deepen the theoretical background in the fields of microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics. The master’s degree in International Trade and Finance without thesis aims to train individuals who can comprehend and interpret the developments and changes and integrate them into decision-making processes more quickly and accurately in the competitive environment of the future, where economic mergers will intensify and international trade barriers will decrease.

The doctoral program aims at specializing students in one or more of the fields such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, development economics, international economics, monetary policy, labor economics, institutional economics, and applied econometrics.
