1-      As a visiting student or researcher you may need an acceptance-invitation letter from GTU. The head of department that invited you at GTU will get an approvement of your stay at GTU from the related Faculty dean and the rector of our University before your invitation. If you need this letter please inform the related department at GTU and request an acceptance letter.  Please see a sample letter on this link.

2-      Your department will assign a buddy for you during your stay at GTU. The buddy will guide you for accommodation and other practical issues. The visiting researchers should get their visiting-staff card from the directorate of personel affairs and the visiting students from the directorate of student affairs.

If you plan to stay more than 3 months in Turkey;

3-       Once you come to Gebze you should get an appointment date from the immigration authority web site: https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr in order to have a residence permit and Turkish ID number for foreigners. You should fill the forms on this web site to get an appointment on a suitable date for you that you may select  between avaliable dates. You should have an address  located in Kocaeli province (at least when applying for residence permitte) as our University is in Kocaeli.

They will request a few documents from you for the appointment. Such as:

- A letter states that you are invited as a visiting student/researcher at GTU signed by the department you are invited. Please see a sample letter on this link.

- A signed document which states your address information (rental contract etc.)

- A health insurance document (You may sign a goverment (SGK) or a private health insurance in order to have residence permit).

- Please read carefully all the other requested documents list when applying and go with them on the appointment date.

Once you complete the documents and go to the appointment, your residence permit card will come to your address a few weeks later via mail.

4-      If you need to get an Turkish bank account, you should have a Turkish ID number for foreigners or a tax number. Taking an ID number will take a few weeks as we explained above, so it is easier to get a tax number from tax office.

- You may go to the Gebze (or any other) tax office with your passport and apply for a tax number.

- They will ask you your address so you should know your address when appliying for a tax number.

- Once you have a tax number you may open a bank account from any bank.

5-      When leaving Gebze you may need a confirmation letter to confirm your study/research at GTU. It will be prepared and signed by the department which you will study at. Please see a sample confirmation letter on this link. You should also fill a leaving form and get it signed by the listed departments on it. Please click for this leaving form.
